Divisions

I'm also going to cover some of the top Div. III teams since every team in Div. III and Div. IV will be fighting to represent the North in the Division III state championship game.

I will also focus on the top teams in Div. V since they will have a shot at representing the North in the Div. IV state title game (schools with enrollments of 500 or less).

I do think Cardinal Newman and Marin Catholic will petition to play up because they will get more consideration if they win the NCS Div. III championship as opposed to the Div. IV championship.

As for the schools in Div. V such as Ferndale, Valley Christian and Berean Christian, they would certainly get a good look were they to win a Div. IV championship.  But a team like Ferndale comes with such a reputation that they would always warrant a strong look were they to win the Div. V championship -- even if they had a loss or two (given the size of the schools they play).

In fact, there is a big game looming Saturday, Sept. 22 with Eureka that everyone is looking forward to.

So, I'm going to expand the coverage here to include teams that are in the hunt in Div. III and Div. V.  As always, I will cover all the Div. IV teams.

If I miss a match-up you think I should highlight, post it as a comment when I post the weekend's games and I'll add it.

Ferndale in division 5 championship with 1 or 2 losses? I don't think that can happen. An undefeated D5 team will get in over a 2 loss D5 team. Reputation isn't going to work. Also Ferndale has a tough schedule. They could go 0-3 in there first 3 games, and if they play up in the playoffs that adds another loss. There are many other teams to be on the lookout for.

You're forgetting this year we will have regional playoff games. If Ferndale loses a couple of close games to Div. III opponents but wins out from there, they will have a great shot at getting a bid to play into the small school division championship game.

Well, let's see. Week 1--Div 5 Ferndale defeats Div 3 Del Norte, 36 - 13. Who's good, who's bad? Time will tell.
