Realignment

Realignment will happen in 2012. Sources from the NCS have stated that the realignment will be focused on developing a true California state championship. To do this, the NCS will align teams in leagues that are the same size, as much as possible, (doing away with teams such as Justin Siena in the MCAL). The section playoffs will be limited to 8 teams with a playoff between the 6 section winners in the north who will then play the winner of the 4 section winners in the south for each division.

There will be some minor tweaks next year (such as the NCL doing away with north and south divisions), but the real change will happen in 2012 -- and I'm not talking about the end of the world.

College Recruiting

The championship game is set and I can't wait for the kickoff. But I'd like to take a moment to mention a couple of players that I have heard through various sources are being moderately recruited by some D-1 schools. El Molino quarterback Mike Pierson is getting some interest from San Jose State and Middletown linebacker/running back Jake Davis has caught the eye of Boise State and UCLA.

Neither player has an offer on the table and there may not be one coming, but I thought I'd pass along my info and ask you to please post any recruiting information you have heard regarding any of the Div. IV players.

On to the Next Round

The opening round of the NCS Division IV playoffs is over and we have to bid farewell to five teams and congratulate them for a good season. Though Berean Christian, Valley Christian, St. Mary's, Kelseyville and St. Helena have played their last game this year, they should be proud that they made it to the post season.

The top 8 seeds are left and from here on out, I think the championship is within the grasp of each one.

I can't wait for round two. I will post a more in depth preview of each game on Thursday.

Thanks to all of you who have posted scores to keep the rest of us informed. I hope everyone has a terrific Thanksgiving!

2010 Seedings

Well, the playoffs are set. All that has to happen is for the games to be played and a champion crowned. I am very excited and looking at the teams in the post season, there are several that I think can challenge for the title. Sure, some teams will need a lucky bounce of the ball or two, but that always seems to happen in high school football.

Good luck to all the teams and congrats on a great season.

I will post a more in-depth preview for each game this weekend on Thursday. I will also post live updates for the games as available.

Eligible Teams for the Playoffs

Aside from the top ten below, here are the teams that are in the playoffs, eligible for the playoffs regardless of the result of their last game, or will become eligible if they win their final game.

In order to be eligible for the playoffs, a team must either have an overall record of .500 or better; a league record of .500 or better; or a record of .500 or better against other teams in the division (or schools outside of the division whose enrollment figures fall within the parameters of the division).

Team guaranteed a spot in the playoffs:

St. Helena

Teams eligible for the playoffs regardless of the next game:

St. Mary's

Willits

Harker

Clear Lake

This Weekend's Games

Here is the line-up for this weekend. I will try to post scores Friday night, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to. So if you get a score, just post it as a comment to this post.

Thursday Night:

Mission San Jose vs. Berean Christian

Friday Night:

San Jose at Harker

El Molino at Fortuna

Arcata at McKinleyville (Game cancelled due to Arcata not fielding a varsity team)

Ferndale at McClymonds

Justin Siena at Benecia

Saturday Afternoon:

American at Valley Christian

Healdsburg at Piedmont

Let me know if I missed any games. We have a lot of new teams and the NCS updated their divisions list today and no teams have petitioned to play up at Division III yet.

New Teams

With a bunch of new teams at Division IV this year (Marin Catholic, Healdsburg, Fortuna, Arcata -- just to name a few) it will be difficult to see how the year shakes out. Some teams might opt to play up in Division III (someone posted that Marin Catholic might do just that). But we won't know for sure until mid-September. Until then, I will assume the list of Division IV teams posted on the NCS site is accurate. If any of you hear of teams that might play up, please post that information here.

2010 Part II

Posted as a comment to the previous post:

The post season honors are still coming out so 2009 hasn't wrapped up just yet.
Maxpreps came out with their All State teams and a couple of our NCS D-IV players made it. The CalHi All State team should be coming out very soon as well.
The Small School team included two Ferndale players. OL Dustin Walters and DL Silas Sarvinski.
The Division III team included Cloverdale TE Casey Berry and Fort Bragg RB Jake Cimolino.
Plus CalHi ranked Fort Bragg #7 in D-IV and named Jack Moyer the Small Schools State Coach of the year.

I'm sure your really busy, but all of these honors are deserving of front page posts.

2010

I'd like to thank everyone for posting this season. I'm still going to try to keep track of any Div. IV players that get to play at the next level. If you hear about anyone not already mentioned in the previous post, please let us know.

2009 was a great season and probably the best post season ever. I can't wait for the 2010 season!
