CIF State Championships 2018

The CIF big five State Championships will be held at Cerritos College south of Los Angeles for at least the next two years. This means the remaining eight smaller division State Championships will be hosted in the north.

Many schools will be able to host the games at home. But one thing the CIF did this year that I find troubling is that all 8 smaller division championships kicked off at 6:00 pm on Saturday. I think there are many fans who would love to catch two games if they could. I think they should have at least three, maybe four smaller division games on Friday night. This would give some of us the option of catching a couple games.

Why does this matter? Because there are folks down south who want ALL the games moved to the LA region because they fill the stands. The LA Times was bragging about filling a college stadium to its 12,000 capacity for their Division I Section Championship.

The point is, even if your team isn't playing, it pays to attend as many of these games as you can. If you don't and poor attendance moves all title games south, you can't complain when you have to drive 600 miles when your team does make it.

Depending on the yearly rotation, you still might have to drive that 600 miles. But as long as it remains a 2-3 year rotation, it's fair.
