State Championship Games

Well, the state "Bowl Games" are set. This year, once again, there is no Division IV game. From the small school division (400 or less enrollment), it jumps to division III (1,250 or less). This combines Div. IV schools and most Div. III schools. They should find a way to make it more equitable. Right now, the way the state championship is set up, it favors teams from the south on many levels -- including the breakdown of enrollment size/division. Not to mention all the games are all played in the south.

Two teams from the NCS made it: De la Salle and Marin Catholic. Good luck to both.

Perhaps if they create a Div. IV field next year, we might be able to root for one of our teams in the future.

To be honest, like what anon1 said, there is no comparison between teams like Oaks Christian and Fort Bragg. Even if OC goes on to play in the Open game, the south still has plenty of pretty much equal teams to take OC's place in a D4 game. It's a numbers and socioeconomic thing. If you eliminate the private small schools it's a bit more even, but as it stands, the north can compete with the south in small schools (save Modesto Christian, the favorite this year!)

Bob Padecky wrote a good article on small town football.

Div IV teams shouldn't have to play up. If that's your position, then there should only be one team from the north and one from the south playing for the title. It's about participation. Not having a Div. IV state title means that two teams are left out of the mix. Each recognized division in the state should be represented, just as they are in any state that has a state championship.

I know that the Berean Christian WR was a D-1 prospect, but I have heard of any others. Anyone know of any other player?

Thanks for posting that article.

is cimilino D1?

Cimolino is a great player, but not a D1 RB.

He can play D2 or D3 without a doubt.

Does the next level only apply to D1 colleges?

There are a bunch of talented seniors in Division IV that can play after high school. Just maybe not at the D1 level.
