Does anyone know where all the money goes from these playoffs??? All we ever hear is, " It goes to the section?" Who is the section and what do they do with the money??? Can you imagine how much money the Ferndale/Fortuna game alone brought in??? They say around 3,000 people there. $9 each. $27,000 in one game!!!They do not pay for jack! Field rental...officials... Why does that money not go back to the programs in the section???
Walnut Creek is ripping us off BIG TIME!!!

Class a dude, maybe you could request an accounting of the thousands in cash money Lemmon is sticking in his pocket?

They also pay for transportation and hotels rooms and meals for the teams when traveling. They pay for all sports. Like soccer and stuff that does not bring in much attendance.

salesian 28 ferndale 0 half

Yes, congratulations to a div 3 team beating a div 5 team. They deserve it.

Time to move up Chad!

Salesian - Pride?
Where's the pride Salesian? If you had any you would move up like what De Lasalle, Valley Christian SJ and a bunch of other schools did. You have a great coaching staff and talent every year yet waste it playing much weaker schools. Have some pride will ya?

The 4 best teams in true division 4 this year were ferndale, healdsburg, St Helena and fortuna...all public schools!!!! Get private their own championship no need to ruin these true small school teams a ncs championship just cuz they dont recruit raw athletes....and don't tell me Salesian doesn't recruit when they have had Jabari brown, tagaloa, Artois and many other D1 recruits at their school

imagine a perfect D-4 football world with no Les Schwab ramblings in your ear. You take the top 8 public school teams (who all have to play by the same rules) and have a 3 week playoff tournament. Pay the officials and field usage expenses and let the teams that are playing split the gate. The private schools will then be free to go off and play with themselves.

Anonymous said...

Salesian does not recruit. It has a great reputation for its major sports teams, especially football and basketball. There are good athletes who attend who travel the extra distance to be part of the strong programs, great coaching, additional exposure, etc. However, the main reason Salesian gets better athletes is that the mission of the school is to provide a quality & safe private school education to those who could not otherwise afford it. It has the resources to dole out over $1.5 million of tuition assistance so it is able to get kids who otherwise would have to go somewhere else.

That being said, the game against Ferndale was unfortunate (the mismatch aspect of it). This year's Pride team could have competed for the D3 championship and gotten to the state bowl game. It's too bad, the team will always be dumped on for not playing up but that is on the coach. The talented group of players have put together a 20 game win streak with two NCS titles so please let them enjoy it.

Please don't put " great coaching" and Salesian in the same sentence. He had his starters in until the very last minute. What a waste to the other kids who practiced all year to just sit and watch while their team was ip 40 points. Not only that, but he was up 34-0, scored again and went for two then had the stones to ask if ferndale wanted a running clock. Pure bad sportsmanship right there

Anonymous said...

No crap just like last year when he ran up the score on ferndale and scored like 70 something. Yes they should play up and no this team would not be able to compete with the top of div 3, they are not that good but they could compete with the lower part of div 3, but least they could have some pride knowing as high schoolers they were competing against other highschoolers instead of elementary kids like they are now. Why dont you guys get some balls and move up next year, but still play middletown cause i know next year they will beat you guys

Chad Nightengale = most classes coach in NCS

salesian plays the same rules everyone else does. and they are within the division IV limit. Don't complain. Middletown last year was good enough to hang with them. Other than Salesian division IV was just down this year.

Anonymous said...

Wow, the jealousy is really coming out today. Look, I'm no Nightingale apologist. Most of us wish he had chosen to move the team up to D3 but the program is still D4 by the books so it's not their fault that the other teams like Ferndale were overmatched this year. Going for two was a mistake but it was an aberration this year, he was pulling back all year long, pulling the starters, running dives in to the line and taking a knee in the second halves of most of the games. Forty two points in a high school game, big whoop.

Anonymous said...

Middletown was good enough to hang with them last year, shit the should have beat them, if they hadn't went home before the game was over. They were already on their way to state before the game ended but oh well you got to finish the job.

Anonymous said...

Why do Ferndale fans always cry when they get it handed to them. There was no way they could compete with Salesians.

I personally know Coach Nightingale, and he is a great guy and coach. As for the recruiting aspect... From my understanding doesn't Ferndale recruit? How many players now and in the past have left Fortuna HS and others in the surrounding area to go and play at Ferndale?

My how blind we become when the shoe is on the other foot. I've said this before and I'll say it again. Ferndale has a great coach and a great system, but when you get it handed to you, like you've hand it to other teams don't cry about it!!!

Ferndale 60 South Fork 14
Ferndale 51 South Fork 7
Ferndale 56 St. Bernard's 0

And considering, you're radio broadcasters had the audacity to hype up your defensive prowess: Only giving up avg. of 10 points per game. Heck you play the same horrible teams twice. Which plays into your favor for the playoffs.

Enjoy High School Football for what it is... High School Football.

I really do not think it is only Ferndale fans that are upset. I'm pretty sure all of the small public school fans are tired of the the private school powers.

King said...

Did anybody really expect a different outcome than this in D4? Salesian is the best team and they proved it. They're D4 beacuase they're D4. Stop crying about public vs private. Step your game up and beat em. It can be done!

Anonymous said...

You are nuts if you think the complaining about private schools will ever end. It has been going on all over the nation for a very long time and will continue until the end of time.

Anonymous said...

Very well said, "Coach." Ferndale loves to run up the score whenever they can. And then it's just fine. Fortuna players often go to Ferndale when they can't handle Fortuna's tougher discipline policies than what Ferndale demands of it's athletes. If they are whining, maybe they should not petition to move up, and just stay in Division 5.

Anonymous said...

Ferndale should stay in D5 if Salesian does not petition up to D3. They would have a great chance of the state bowl game if they could win the section.
Oh and Ferndale must be doing something right when it comes to the discipline of their players. They have 10 wins and 1 loss against Fortuna over the past 10 seasons.

pride said...

I this will blow over. But it will start up again next year.... Because both teams will meet up again in the championship game.

Anonymous said...

Ferndale is no Middletown. Those Mustangs played a better Salesian offense last year and gave them everything they could handle...twice. And the Pride have nothing but respect for that school, that town, the coaches and players.

Ferndale's program is the epitome of classless. Coach Jorgensen has around 12 NCS titles in 21 years to Nightingale's 3 in 15 years. That doesn't sound like private school domination to me. Ferndale should be embarrassed that their players dads were calling Pride players names on the field after a game. They are only 16 year old kids! And what is with the Ferndale coaching staff? An OL was limping very badly out there. He looked really hurt and no one would take him out? It should be criminal making an injured kid play out the rest of the game like that. Won't even comment on the racist stuff.

Anonymous said...

Hopefully not. I will be rooting for two public shcools playing in the finals for the first time in ten years.

Anonymous said...

Nightingale is classless. Going for 2 up by 40. I was out there after the game . No parent or anyone else said anything to a player. A Pride assistant coach was the one getting all wound up. Nightingale walked right by Ferndale parents and made a comment about why Ferndale didnt sub down. They have 4 subs, the rest were JV's. He didnt sub down at all. The injured player did sit out almost the whole 2nd half, but being 1 of only 2 seniors playing wanted to end his season on the field. get real and show some class chad

Anonymous said...

You have to respect coach jorgensen and the way he coaches his players. If you don't then you are disrespectful to the kind of coach and person he is.
You can talk about the way the ferndale fans express themselves but think about how much jorgensen has to deal with the same people.

Anonymous said...

I understand why public school fans are upset with the rise of the private small school powers. The public schools ruled the small school (Div IV) ranks for years winning 21 of the first 27 section titles from 1975 to 2002.
_
That has all changed. Since 2003 Salesian or Justin-Siena or St. Patricks/St. Vincents or sometimes both have played in the championship game. With one of those three teams winning the title 7 out of the last 9 years.

Anonymous said...

Discipline off the field Moron. 5 starters should have been kicked off last years team due to drinking that the cops busted and the whole town knew about and the coach choose to turn the other cheek. and on and on with other things most kids get kicked off teams for. Ferndale chooses football above all else. but we won't go down that road again......

I noticed the small privates becoming more popular the last 10-15 years. In the 90s unathletic smart kids went to privates and great athletes went public. Now more parents want the private education and its draining the athlete pool from publics. Thats what I see. But we can still keep complaining about "recruiting"...

Anonymous said...

And what school do you represent that has perfect little football players that don't go out and do anything wrong?

Anonymous said...

No school has perfect athletes that do no wrong. That's the point. They need to be held accountable. It's all in how a school and community chooses to handle it.

Funny how class A Dude stays out of it

They don't call him "Class A Dude" for nothing

I have been staying out of it because I don't have a dog in the hunt. The public school - private school debate has raged for many years and will rage on for many, many more. I'm not on either side of that issue. I love high school football and the NCS Div. IV is my favorite.

Yes, Salesian was far and away the better team in the division this year, but some years it wasn't so obvious. Who would have thought that Fort Bragg would have won it all (beating both Salesian and Justin Siena) in 2009? How about the epic battles St. Patrick-St. Vincent and Ferndale had in 2007? I wouldn't want to trade those years for anything.

And just for the record, I went to Middletown, but I have traveled to see most of the teams in the division play. I really do love this stuff, which is why I created the blog.

But I do understand how strongly people feel about their teams and how they will go to almost any length to defend them.

It's high school football -- something we're all quite passionate about. I ask that you try to refrain from making personal attacks on players or coaches. The Penn State fiasco should help you put into better perspective what a classless coach truly is.

And if someone else vents on your team or coach? Try to remember that's all they are doing -- venting.

Hey CLASS A DUDE you said you went to middletown, did you mean middletown highschool and if so do you still live there, and do you have any kids or grandkids that played ball there and if so who are they. I went there also class of 96 baby

I graduated in '83. The teams I played on won maybe two games a year.

My younger brothers played there...The last graduated in '92.

That 1991 1992 middletown team was a good one with portillo i think thats how it is spelled at qb and fadeef at wr and wetherbee at te and some also goo all around players. I would say what i have seen at middletown i would rank that team #4 behind 2001 at #3, 1997 1998 at #2 and last years team #1.

Anonymous said...

Who would be #5 be on your Middletown list? It would be fun to hear other fans top 5 teams at their schools.

Anonymous said...

To the guy that said something abouy nightingale coach=classless. are you one of the ferndale parents yelling racial slurs at the salesian football players and calling thier coaches classless? bet so. check out the front page of the times-standard (eureka paper)on line. pretty pathetic ferndale.

Anonymous said...

i wasnt at the game, so I cant speak for what was said and not said , but I know for a fact that Coach Jorgensen would not tolerate anything like that from the assistant coaches.

Jim said...

To lump all the Ferndale parents/fans into one group and say that they were all yelling racial slurs is ridiculous. However, there is always some nut job at just about every game (I mean every game, not just Ferndale or even just high school for that matter), that blurts out completely inappropriate stuff. Those people are the ones giving a bad name to their respective sidelines.

Anonymous said...

from reading it this sounds like over a 3 year period. wow. and from comments on here it looks like ferndale was very frustrated the score was run up on them. now we know why. i;m willing to bet those ferndale coaches are not as perfect as you think in heat of a game and getting their butts kicked

Anonymous said...

you Know for a facthe would not tolerate coaches talking like that? like you said, you weren't at the game. It ferndale, it is the game over all else.

Anonymous said...

you know what kills his credibility? the concession stand part. If that was said around people at a ferndale game they would be looked at like they were crazy. That would never happen. If he can make that up he can make anything up. ridiculous.

Anonymous said...

YOu know what kills your credibility? The fact you think someone from Ferndale would never say something like that. Players have talked for years how Dad's have shouted stuff to them from the sidelines. I don't think most football players care--until it gets racial--but some of the stuff we have heard the dad's yelling makes thme sound like 17 year old boys themselves.
why not admit there are jerks..as there are at most places...and deal with those people. rather than to say....oh we are so perfect in ferndale, not one of us would ever do that.

Anonymous said...

Reading this paper, 2 players from opposing schools gave basically the same quote that was shouted at them. That in my opinion is pretty substantial.

Anonymous said...

Winning!

Anonymous said...

do you people really think this only happens at ferndale? wake up! there is racism going on everywhere still today!

Anonymous said...

Wow... Just WOW!!!

I think this years Willits team could be top 5 for Willits. I would put...
1. 1991 - 1st and only NCS title
2. 2004 - Only loss to Justin-Siena in DIV fianls
3. 1993 - Lost to Fort Bragg in DIV finals
4. 1992 - Lost to Upperlake in DIV finals
5. 2011 -

middletown fan said...

Yeah i remember that 1991 willits team, they were a 8 seed and knocked of a #1 in the first round, and then knocked off #2 seed middletown in the class A final in Ukiah, i was there watching that game as a 8th grader, willits had a great qb and wr combo of brian murphy and jeff roach.

Formal charges have been filed against Ferndale, NCS is going to fully investigate. Yesterdays Times Standard. I don't know what is going on but it does not sound good for them.

ok - REALLY?? I am disappointed in a lot of these comments. I have been with Salesian football for 6 years (as a parent - football Mom to be exact)! I can tell you why Salesian has been so good - Yes we have a very talented and intelligent coaching staff. I know them personally and have considered my boys lucky to have had them as another role model in their life. We have also been lucky to have extremely talented players attend Salesian- but we have something at Salesian that most football teams do not - we have an enormous group of football parents who come in week after week to cook dinner for the kids, and the coaches and players all sit down to a meal together every week - it's nothing to do with what happens on the field - but it seems to matter. When we parents attend our kids games - we all know each other -we are a tight group. I am proud to have been a part of this program - I hope my kids someday realize what it took to do this, and that they find a way to help 100+ kids at a time, or just stay involved with their own - I hope everyone can say they are being a positive example-your kids are watching what we parents and coaches do and say. This the small kind of change that could enhance the world we live in and this is what is taught at Salesian. Come and see! You don't have to be an athlete, mathlete is good too! - As for Coach Nightingale recruiting - LOL!!! - go ahead and send him an email to try and talk your kid up before he enters- LOL LOL LOL!! he won't respond to you - he would expect your kid to show up to practice, work his butt off, be a crazy good player to be a starter, and attend dinner! Best of luck to all the kids & coaches of all sports in 2012!
