I listened to the Justin Siena - St. Mary's game on KVYN. The announcers said that Justin would host either Arcata or Fort Bragg next week. Justin is an at-large seed (#1) and Arcata (#4) and Fort Bragg (#5) are league champions. I am pretty sure that league champs still host playoff games regardless of seeding. Does anyone know for sure?

From the NCS Site: League Champions will have the first option to host first and semifinal games provided the league champion is able to
comply with the facility, personnel and sponsorship criteria stated on the Application to Host form (pages 8‐9).

On the Napa Valley Register article this morning they said a new NCS rule allows the higher seeded team to host a playoff game after the first round. So the winner of the Arcata-Fort Bragg game will travel to Justin Siena next week.

The Register is right, new rule just passed by only one vote. The private schools lobbied for the change. Champions just get to host first round if seeded against non champion higher seed

Sounded like another Ferndale hose job. I thought they weren't allowed to host playoff games because of the racist stuff that happened the past two years.

Anonymous said...

Ferndale had to come from behind twice now to beat St. Berndards...winning this time with 16 seconds left. St. Berndards being a sub-par team, Ferndale might as well kiss their State hopes goodbye.

Justin v. Arcata/Fort Bragg and San Marin v. St. Helena. It's refreshing seeing a shakeup in the teams in the playoffs this year instead of Justin, Salesian, Ferndale and St. Mary's year after year after year

Are you smoking crack this is the first year i have seen st. marys in the div 4 playoffs that i remember and what about middletown they are always there and no justin for a while either. Way to go St.helena, cant wait to watch next weekends game.

Anonymous said...

What racist stuff? Im new to div. 4 What's the skinny?

Anonymous said...

*puts down crack pipe* watchoo talkin about 12 beers?? lol and there have been lots of complaints from fans, players and coaches about racist remarks coming from Ferndale fans (not sure about any from their players or coaches). Enough for the NCS to look into it.

Congratulations to the Saints! I knew Salesian was a flawed team this year but St Helena still had to go out there and earn it. Hats off to them. They deserve it.

Anonymous said...

Yes,way to go Saints. What's up with the Arcata/ Ft. Bragg game?

Anonymous said...

Arcata leads 12-7 at the half

Thanks for posting!

12 beers down...Dude, wake up! St. Mary's is a fixture in the playoffs and was the No. 1 seed in 2009, only to lose to Justin-Siena in the second round. Justin had one down year -- 2010 -- but has been in the playoffs every other year for the past 15.

Justin Siena over Arcata 34-24. St Helena over San Marin 26-22
Justin beats up on st. Helena 48-27

Just like i said i cant remember st.marys, that was 3 years ago and they got beat in the 2nd round, who remembers that. And for justin they are just a bunch of rich kids being punks playing football. Good luck in life.

Justin Siena won the section title in 2001, 2003, 2004, and 2008. They were runner up in 2002, 2006 and 2009. Between 2001 And 2009 they were in the section title game all but one year

Anonymous said...

Four straight years St. Mary's has been in the playoffs, so I'm guessing we might be 16Beers Down by now, or 20. After all, who could remember the past four years? And you're right -- Justin graduates have a very difficult time in life. You probably work for one of them.

Ferndale has to have their fans roped off so many feet from the field and there are field marshalls watching them at each game. They shout racist remarks and just just plain crap to other teams, calling players out by name. They tried banning media to the stands in protest of them reporting on their actions, but it caused such a stir that they had to let them back on the field. Although didn't they drop down to div. 5 this year hoping for a bowl game?

If you listened to the Ferndale game on the radio, it was clear that St. Bernard's got hosed with some clearly questionable calls, especially the Ferndale touchdown that won the game. The announcers, Ferndale homers, said the quarterback was stopped well short of the end zone with roughly 30 seconds left and no timeouts left, and then after about 10 seconds they yell, "Touchdown Ferndale!" because one of the line judges decided it was a touchdown. The St. Bernard's coach got an unsportsmanlike penalty for arguing, but in the end he can just join a long list of coaches who were hosed by the refs in Ferndale. It is really an amazing slice of Americana up there.

Anonymous said...

Hmmmm.. sounds like a jealous cry baby to me......

Anonymous said...

In the playoffs refs are sent from other associations, the radio even said two of them were from lake county. So at least during the playoffs you can't blame the refs on Ferndale even though I listened to the game on the radio and I'm neutral sounded like ferndale did get some breaks,

Anonymous said...

Yeah there is an old race horse buried at the 50 yd line in Ferndale.... The locals fondly call him Hose Bisquit.

Anonymous said...

Ferndale is always given the calls and they cheat. Thats why no one can beat them.

Anonymous said...

Lots of sore losers on here...

No dout. Makes me want to coach again. To remind everyone football is a marvelous gateway to produce good sons, good students, good brothers and sisters, good people. I'm a football fan first. In fact a fanatic. Love the game folks. Just love the game. And appreciate the efforts of these kids. Play ball!

Class A Dude said...

And that, folks, is what it's all about and why I created this blog. Great post, thanks for posting it!

On to next weekend where the hits will keep on coming!

It's been very obvious that reverse discrimination has been widely accepted throughout American Society for many years. People want to cry fowl in Ferndale, yet from first hand experience i can confidently say thay the most striking examples of trash talking came from Salesian players in 2009. It looks like current attitudes in Society maybe sending a one sided message to our youth. Or maybe class and honor can only be realistically expected of those outside the hood. Is it time yet to place the same expectations in both directions? How much longer will it take for the pendulum to swing back to the middle?

Obviosly you do not follow football in Humboldt Co. The announcer of the Ferndale games is Tag Wotherspoon. He hates Ferndale! He attended St. Bernard's and Fortuna Highs, Ferndale's two biggest rivals. He has never lived in Ferndale, never been a part of the community or had anything to do with Ferndale. He just works for the radio station that carries Ferndale games. Trust me...Tag Wotherspoon is as far from a homer as they come. He is not welcome in Ferndale. Tag Wotherspoon HATES Ferndale High!!!

Anonymous said...

Tag spent many seasons as a Ferndale baseball coach. His kids attend Ferndale. Why are fans hating on on Tag like the last poster? He was one of the media who did not turn a blind eye to Ferndale and their attempted cover-up of their racists remarks. Even their coach was in on the cover-up. NCS took care of that, as best they could with everybody keeping quiet. No wonder he is "not welcome in Ferndale." The poster is obvious on of the coveruppers.

Anonymous said...

That is totally untrue that there was a cover up or that any coach was involved. You are a complete and total lier. It has never even been suggested!!! You just made that up!

Sick...

If you have no knowledge...keep your mouth shut.

Tag had one son attend Ferndale for a short time. He not longer does. Yes, unfortunately he did coach baseball for a while before they got rid of him. Does not know sports. He never played.

Anonymous said...

Tag had a son who atteded Elementary for a short time a few years back. His kids do NOT attend Ferndale.

I would say you have not credibility.

Anonymous said...

Check your facts about assistant coaches and their comments with the NCS investigation. And then the back and forth with the head coach about things he knew/did not know when it was brought to his attention.

and we are being called a liar by the guy who just said tag has never had any association with Ferndale, never part of the community in any way whatsoever and then when called on it, admits he was in fact a coach for Ferndale and his kids went to school there.

Priceless arguments from a Ferndale fanatic.

Anonymous said...

As was stated. Tag's kids DO NOT attend Ferndale.

As far as your investigation comment, that is a total lie. CHECK YOUR FACTS!!!

Unreal the lies people will spew...and not back them up at all. Not one fact. You are clueless.

So are Tags kids attending Ferndale or not??????????????

Anonymous said...

Like Class A Dude said. "On to next weekend."

Anonymous said...

My understanding is that the NCS did impose severe restrictions on Ferndale and their fans. Are they not on probation? I would think there is more than just gossip for this to happen. On to next week.

Anonymous said...

To the person who keeps shouting in capital letters..I have no idea if tags kids graduated or transferred out or are still there, but for you to insinuate again and again he had nothing to do with ferndale ever speaks to your credibility. he obviously at one time transferred his kid to ferndale "because he hates Ferndale" so much.

Anonymous said...

Please show me proof of the coaches being involved in a cover up. That is what fired me up. That is a total lie. It was never mentioned. You say it was stated in the NCS findings. That is untrue. The staff/administration at Ferndale was commended for the way they handled the situation. It is in print from the NCS findings. The local media was chastised for their "evil spirit" among other things. Do not make false accuasations against coaches and players. Some people may actually believe you and that would be so sad.

Why do people keep brining this up? The NCS was forced to do an investigation. Ferndale came up clean as we all knew.

The NCS said they found no wrong doing by anyone in Ferndale. They said if anything happened in 2012 we would not host a playoff. Of course nothing happened.

Onward and upward. It has been a great season.

Anonymous said...

No restrictions were placed on Ferndale and their fans. The only thing they said is if anything happened in 2012 Ferndale would not host a playoff game. Period.

Anonymous said...

Do you even live in Ferndale? NCS approved monitors had to be at every game. Google "Ferndale football ncs" The very first thing you will see is an article about how they are on probation. Keep digging and do your own reserach and no longer will you claim everything is just a lie. Or you probably will still. That's going to be my guess.

Anonymous said...

I just googled what you suggested and also googled ferndale football racial and ferndale football racist. Looks like there is some truth here.

Anonymous said...

So if you find something on the internet it is the truth??? WOW. I give up. Read the NCS report. Even you could understand it...if you wanted to.

Good Luck!

" I just googled it..." Unbelievable.

Anonymous said...

I don't know what the announcer has to do with anything but did listen to part of last weekends game via internet. Someone on here claimed the announcer hates Ferndale? He was severely biased towards ferndale and very complimentary. He must be an awesome actor, lol.

Anonymous said...

I THINK TAG RAN IN THE WINNING TD FOR CRYING OUTLOUD!!! lol

Anonymous said...

I watched the film from Ferndale/St. Bernards game and the questionable calls were good. The touchdown at the end was good, the quarterback was 2 feet over the line with the ball (TOUCHDOWN). The punt prior to the touchdown the punters knee was on the ground, the play is dead in High School Football when the knee is on the ground. So quit whining about the questionable calls as Ferndale got hosed as well on several calls. As for Ferndale Football team being racist, it wasn't the team but a couple of foul mouth fans. A couple of people about ruined if for the team. Ferndale has a black kid on the team last year and this year so for them being racist, I don't think you know what is going on.

The Salesian Head football Coach needs to read the current article in the Santa Rosa Press Democrat about trash talk and shaking hands after a game. Then he needs to think back to the semi-finals of the 2009 season. I would hope when he asks himself if he would do things differently, given the chance, that the answer would be yes. I believe trash talk among players is somewhat cultural and will happen....they are kids! The coaches should be there to set an example of what America strives for. Coaches should always be able to shake hands.
