Final Score

Salesian 22, Middeltown 21

The game was an excellent one. It was tied 7-7 at the half, and Middletown was ahead 21-13 entering the 4th quarter. But Salesian scored with about 9 minutes left and Middletown turned the ball over on downs their next possession. Salesian then marched down to the 13 yard line with about 3 minutes left. A holding penalty put them back to the 23. They didn't gain much and and 4th down they kicked a field goal to take the lead. Middletown turned the ball over on downs.

Point of full disclosure, I was rooting for Middletown ('83 alumni), but it was a great game to watch. Salesian has a terrific running back and their quarterbck has a strong arm. But it was their line, offense and defense, that carried the day. Their line dominated Middletown's.

Tomorrow's big game is Justin Siena at Ferndale, then we'll know who is matched up in the championship game.

If it ends up being Salesian and Justin Siena, I would refuse to support the playoff system anymore. These two teams should not even be in these playoffs. Their coaches are too chicken to face the teams in their own division.
